Link Code

Introduction

Affiliate link code contains information that enables our network to track and identify your role in the conversion or sales process so that you can be paid the commissions you have earned.

HTML is the programming language used for link code.

Link Code Segments

This is an example of our link code:

<a href="https://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=lMh2Xiq9xN0&offerid=7097.10000034&subid=0&type=4"><img border=0 alt="95 x 95 v2" src="https://ad.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/show?id=lMh2Xiq9xN0&bids=7097.1000003&subid=0&type=4"></a>

The first elements of the code are the anchor and attribute. All HTML links start with an anchor element, <a>. The anchor is followed by an attribute, href. The attribute indicates the destination of the link. In the example above, the destination is the following URL:

https://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=lMh2Xiq9xN0&offerid=7097.10000034&subid=0&type=4

The URL portion of the code can be broken down into the following segments; click the + to see more information:

Redirect
https://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?

Each URL starts with the location of our server. Our network does not connect the consumer directly to their destination, which is the advertiser's website. Rather, our code redirects links to the advertiser's site after first hitting one of our servers.

Affiliate ID
id=lMh2Xiq9xN0

This unique 11-character alphanumeric code tells the server exactly which publisher the click came from. This is also referred to as the tracking code, tracking ID, or encrypted code.

Offer ID
&offerid=7097.10000034

The numbers before the decimal identify the offer you are in. The numbers after the decimal identify the specific link from that offer that has been clicked.

Sub ID
&subid=0

This number is used to identify the sub-publisher partner in a sub-network, if applicable. It corresponds to the value passed as the subid= parameter in the affiliate link. In this specific example, no value was passed.

Link Type
&type=4

This identifies the type of link that was clicked. Possible values and their corresponding link type are:

 Attention

Though you may make some changes to your link code, we strongly recommend that you keep any modifications minimal.

Links with Images

If the link is an image link, as in the above example, the anchor tag encloses an image tag, <img>:

<img border=0 alt="95 x 95 v2" src="https://ad.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/show?id=lMh2Xiq9xN0&bids=7097.1000003&subid=0&type=4">

The image tag includes a source attribute, src, which contains the path to the image file.

Impression Tracking Pixel

The impression tracking pixel is a 1x1-sized graphic that allows us to record impressions on the creative. Tracking pixels are placed after the </a> tag. This is an example of a tracking pixel code:

<IMG border=0 width=1 height=1 src="https://ad.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/show?id=lMh2Xiq9xN0&bids=7097.1000003&subid=0&type=4">

Tracking pixels are added to text links and image links when the image is not hosted on a Rakuten server.

 Attention

Consider carefully before removing a 1x1 pixel from your link code, as this will affect our ability to track impressions.

Links and Tracking

To better illustrate the parts of a link that are relevant to the tracking process and the information provided above, this is an example of a text link with key segments color-coded:

<a href=“http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click>id=1Mh2Xiq9xN0&offerid=186524.10000589&type=3&subid=0”>Text Link Copy</a><IMG border=0width=1height=1src=http://ad.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/show?id=1Mh2Xiq9xN0&bids=186524.10000589&type=3&subid=0”>

In this example:

  • 1Mh2Xiq9xN0 in green is the affiliate ID. This allows our system to track the publisher driving the referral.
  • 186524 in blue is the offer ID. This allows our system to track the offer your are participating in and the advertiser who created the offer.
  • 10000589 in orange is the link ID. It is used in parallel to the next identifier.
  • 3 in purple is the link type. Combined with the link ID, this allows our system to track the link that the user clicked on and to identify the landing page that the user is delivered to.
  • <IMG border=0width=1height=1src=http://ad.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/show?id=1Mh2Xiq9xN0&bids=186524.10000589&type=3&subid=0”> in red is the impression tracking pixel. This allows us to track impressions specific to text links.
