PayPal Payment Option

Introduction

PayPal is a service that enables you to make payments, send money, and accept payments without revealing your financial details. It is one of your options for receiving commission payments from Rakuten Advertising. There are some restrictions with using PayPal, so review the information below carefully before selecting this payment option.

Benefits

  • Signing up is simple.
  • Using PayPal as a payment option means you do not need to enter your bank details in the Publisher Dashboard or risk losing checks in the mail.
  • PayPal is secure. You can read more about security on the PayPal website.
  • Rakuten Advertising does not charge any fees for using PayPal as a payment option. You can learn more about PayPal fees on the PayPal site.

Important Considerations

Rakuten Advertising currently does not offer multiple payment options for different networks. If you select PayPal as your payment option, you cannot receive payments via check or direct deposit.

These are the main points you should be aware of before selecting PayPal as your payment option; click the + for more information:

Network Availability

PayPal is available to publishers located in more than 200 markets who work with advertisers in these Rakuten Advertising networks: US, Canada, UK, Australia, France, and Germany.

However, you cannot receive payments for commissions earned from advertisers in the Brazil or Japan networks via PayPal.

Review your payment options for more information.

Verified PayPal Account
Your PayPal account must be verified by PayPal before you select PayPal as your payment option in your Publisher Dashboard. You will receive an error message if you sign up with an unverified PayPal account.
Receiving Currencies
Each network will pay out in local currency, which means you can receive commissions to your PayPal account in one of these five currencies, depending on the network for which you have earned commissions:
  • US dollars (USD)
  • Euros (EUR)
  • Canadian dollars (CAD)
  • British pounds (GBP)
  • Australian dollars (AUD)

Check your PayPal Help Center for information about how PayPal handles foreign currency payments and for any fees PayPal may charge you for receiving foreign currencies.

PayPal Currency Balances
You will have a primary currency on your PayPal account for sending and requesting payments. By default, this is the currency of the country on your PayPal account. If you receive commissions in a currency you hold, the money will automatically appear in your account in that currency. If you receive commissions in a currency you do not hold, check your PayPal Help Center to learn how PayPal handles foreign currencies.
Receiving Rakuten Advertising Commission Payments

You need to earn a minimum of 50 currency units to receive commission payments via PayPal. Check with PayPal to confirm any receiving limits that they may impose on your account, depending on your PayPal country.

As soon as you receive a commission, it goes into your PayPal balance. When you have a PayPal balance, you can either use those funds to send a payment or you can withdraw the funds. Log in to your account to view your withdrawal options.

PayPal imposes limits on the amount of money we can send to you in a single transaction. These limits are based on currency. Here are the individual limits based on currency type for all the possible currencies in which Rakuten Advertising will be sending out PayPal payments:

  • 10,000 USD
  • 8,000 EUR
  • 12,500 CAD
  • 5,500 GBP
  • 12,500 AUD

If your PayPal payment exceeds a certain amount, your payment will be delivered to you in separate amounts. For example, if you receive your payments in USD, and your total commission for a given payment is 50,000 USD, you will receive five separate payments to your PayPal account, each in the amount of 10,000 USD.

Set Up

To receive Rakuten Advertising commissions via PayPal, you first need to create a PayPal account on the PayPal website and securely link your credit card, debit card, and bank account details.

Once your PayPal account has been verified by PayPal, follow these steps to set it as your payment method in your Publisher Dashboard.

 Note

Only Master Users can change payment settings. Other user types are not authorized to access the Payment Method tab.

Troubleshooting

When setting up PayPal as your payment option, you might get the following error message: We cannot validate your PayPal information. Please verify and try again. Two common reasons for this are:

  1. The PayPal account is not verified with PayPal. This can be due to several factors. Contact PayPal support to resolve this issue.
  2. The PayPal information is not entered correctly for our system. We require the first name, last name, and email address that is used on the PayPal account. First or last names with multiple parts may cause issues. So can the reverse order of first and last names seen in some languages.

Reference ID and Transaction ID

In the Payments Made section of your Payment Reports in the Publisher Dashboard, you will see a column titled Reference ID. This column shows you either your check number or PayPal reference ID, depending on your payment option.

Within your PayPal account, you can track your payment by running a search and pasting in the reference ID from the Publisher Dashboard into the transaction ID as a parameter for a search.

The reference ID value on the Publisher Dashboard is the same as the transaction ID value on your PayPal account.

Reporting

Our available reporting tools show PayPal payments in specific ways.

In the Advanced Reports API:
  • Payment type will reflect PayPal.
  • Check number will reflect PayPal reference IDs. If you receive multiple reference IDs, each reference ID will be separated by a pipe.
In Signature Reconciliation Feeds:
  • The Payment_Type tag will reflect PayPal.
  • The Check_ACH_Number tag will reflect up to one PayPal reference ID only. If you receive multiple reference IDs, only the first one will be shown within this tag. All reference IDs will not be shown within this tag. See the Reference ID section above for more information.
