Return Days or Cookie Window

Introduction

After you refer a consumer to an advertiser’s site, the consumer might wait a certain amount of time before returning to the site and making a purchase. Even if the consumer returns directly to the advertiser’s site, you can still be compensated for the referral if the return visit occurs within the number of return days or cookie window specified by the advertiser.

 Note

Return days and cookie window have the same meaning and can be used interchangeably.

Advertisers can set their own return days as a default for their program or at the offer level. The commission you earn is based on the terms of the offer in place at the time of purchase.

Consumer Delivery

You must have delivered the consumer to the advertiser's site to be considered the referring publisher and benefit from the advertiser's return days policy.

You are considered to have delivered a user to an advertiser if, after receiving a clear indication from that user that they are interested in viewing an advertiser's offerings, you direct that user to the relevant page on the advertiser's site.

Examples of this include, but are not limited to, the following situations; click the + for more information:

Direct Link to Advertiser Site
You display an advertiser's link on your site so that when users click that link, they are redirected to the advertiser's site.
Direct Link Within Your Site or Indirect Link to Advertiser Site
You display the advertiser's link on your site so that when a user clicks that link, they are redirected to another page devoted to that advertiser. At the same time, a fully visible window displaying the relevant page of the advertiser's site opens over or under your web page.
Search Link Within Your Site or Indirect Link to Advertiser Site
You permit the user to use the search features integrated into your site to locate an advertiser's offerings and then either open or redirect the user to a fully visible window displaying the specific advertiser's site as part of the search results.

 Note

In this example, the user's search query must include a specific reference to the advertiser, such as the advertiser's name or products, instead of generic search terms.

Search Link to Your Site or Indirect Link to Advertiser Site
You are acquiring search placement on third-party search engines for a specific advertiser. When a user clicks on your listing in the search results, they are redirected to a page on your site devoted to that advertiser or the advertiser's products. At the same time, a full-sized window displaying the advertiser's relevant page pops over or under the window containing your page. In this example, the user's search query must include some specific reference to the advertiser, like the advertiser's name or products, instead of generic search terms.

 Attention

Some advertisers regulate the purchase of keywords based on their name, brands, and trademarks, so you should consult with those advertisers before attempting to acquire search placement on their behalf.

Practices to Avoid

Rakuten Advertising will terminate your participation in the network if we find you are gaming or trying to beat the system. This includes simulating referrals or delivering users to a site they have not clearly expressed interest in visiting.

By establishing these basic guidelines, we are in no way attempting to discourage you from optimizing and improving how you promote your advertiser partners' products and services. We want to ensure you act ethically and responsibly, focusing on adding value to the advertiser's affiliate marketing program. Learn more about our compliance standards.
